Kevin Thomas (One Planet Matters) runs a dynamic organisation that is making a big difference on the ground to local communities enabling and supporting them to make the necessary changes to their lives and local areas to tackle the Climate Emergency and the nature crisis. Funding is extremely important to the organisation to be able to maximize the dissemination of the projects that they have developed and the expertise that they have built up during the time they have been established.

Metro Mayor for the West of England

This is a blooming fantastic idea which has brought the community together and used every inch of space to create a beautiful-looking and super-productive garden for everyone beyond the school gates. With the cost of living soaring, more and more families are struggling right now, and so initiatives like these that provide access to fresh, sustainable and tasty West of England produce are so important

We are so pleased to be working in collaboration with One Planet Matters who are doing such brilliant work getting trees planted and bringing communities together. We highly recommend checking out their website, getting involved, and buying one of their reusable cups too!!

My Council was contacted by OPM a few short months ago. Now we have 4 community orchards and a copse of trees! We already had plans to create community orchards, but where do you start? OPM made it really easy for us - we chatted about what would work with OPM, our parish councillors identified 10 possible sites, then OPM visited us and we chose 4 of those. OPM took care of sourcing the right mix of trees and stakes etc, while we promoted a planting day and got volunteers to add to OPM's, and on the 27th January we all met up and planted the orchards together. OPMs knowledge and assistance was just what we needed to get things moving, and already we are getting great comments from our community. We had a local school there and they will be following the orchards as they develop, so the kids will see them from tiny sapling to taking home fruit in 2 or 3 years.

As a small charity, we have been grateful for the Raised Beds and Community Orchard trees One Planet Matters have been able to give to us. The raised beds will support people with mobility issues that need to sit or use wheelchairs and will enable them to join in with planting food products for harvesting later in the year.

Our apple trees, along with their origins, will be shared with the local school and Community. Additionally, we support people with disabilities who often need direction in choosing healthy foods to eat, the trees present an excellent source of grown nutrition that can be nurtured and harvested. We have complemented the trees with a range of fruit bushes to add and grow the area.

These additions provide valuable learning tools for the beneficiaries and also for the Community as they will be able to access the areas and learn more about biodiversity and climate change, so they too, can be involved and encouraged to take positive steps forward in their daily lives, to make a difference and help mitigate where we find ourselves in 2022!

E-LEARNING TESTIMONIALS

Our e-learning package is being used by Colleges and Universities
Here's what they have to say about the package.
Faith Terry-Doyle

Sustainability Co-ordinator, UWE Student's Union

This comprehensive but short e-learning course covers a range of inspiring and important topics; climate change sciences, global issues and your carbon footprint. Social justice and human rights are embedded within the course as well, and it shows how these issues are interconnected with climate change. There are also ‘deeper dive’ sections which cover fascinating topics in an accessible way, such as greenwashing and fast fashion’.
